Contract Role: Low Voltage Design Engineer

  • RCDD certification required– Chicago area
  • Contract position up to 20 hours per week. 5 years experience
  • Pay range: $65-$85 per hour case dependent on experience

Job Description:

ClientFirst, a rapidly growing local government technology consulting firm, is seeking a motivated and skilled self-starter to join our infrastructure team. This role will be responsible for participating in the design, bidding, and construction observation of both new (greenfield) and remodel projects for local government entities.

The role primarily supports school districts, cities, and counties on various low-voltage projects, including Structured Cabling, VoIP, Video Surveillance, Door Access Control, and Audio/Visual systems. Responsibilities include designing and specifying small computer rooms and tele/data closets, which involve creating rack elevations and determining pathways. Power and HVAC requirements will generally be managed by the MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing). At the same time, you will coordinate with architects and building owners regarding pathways, door hardware, and computer room layouts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Write bid specifications for inclusion in both construction-related and standalone bids.
  • Focus on interior projects in new or remodeled buildings.
  • Collaborate with architects, MEP teams, and building owners to ensure project success.
  • Design and specify tele/data closets and small computer rooms, including rack elevations and pathways.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with local government projects in school districts, municipalities, or counties is preferred.
  • Knowledge or certification in outside plant fiber is a plus but not required.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD/Revit, with the ability to access a workstation with the latest version of these tools.

Reporting Relationship:

  • This position reports to the Infrastructure Practice Leader at ClientFirst.
